Simpson-Reed Grove is an old-growth redwood grove in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, just west of Hiouchi off Highway 199. Its level 0.8-mile loop is wheelchair accessible and has interpretive panels.

Overview

The grove sits within Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, west of Hiouchi on Highway 199. The main loop is 0.8 mile, easy and level, and wheelchair accessible. An optional half-mile Peterson Memorial Trail extends the walk. Vault toilets and auto parking are at the trailhead.

What to See

The trail passes redwood groves, creeks, ferns, hemlocks, huckleberries, and nurse logs, where fallen redwoods support new growth for hundreds of years. Interpretive wayside panels along the route cover the area's natural and cultural history.

Know Before You Go

Reach the trailhead via the Walker Road exit off Highway 199, then about 0.1 mile to parking. The turnoff is sharp and easy to miss.
