Overview
The camp sits at the edge of prairies surrounded by fir and pine, reached by a strenuous 3.3-mile route from the trailhead off Howland Hill Road with about 1,800 feet of elevation gain. Five sites have fire pits, bear-proof lockers, picnic tables, and a toilet, plus a horse trough and corral. There is no water on site, so it must be packed in.
Know Before You Go
The camp welcomes horses and bikes along the Little Bald Hills Trail, which crosses old-growth and second-growth forest and pine-studded prairie. A free backcountry permit is required and is available only online.
