Overview
The view drops into the trough of the Coachella Valley, where the San Andreas Fault shows as a line of vegetation and low ridges along the valley floor. On clear days the Salton Sea appears to the south. Mount San Jacinto (10,834 feet) and San Gorgonio Mountain (11,503 feet), two of Southern California's highest peaks, stand across the valley.
Know Before You Go
A paved road reaches the parking area, with a short paved path to the main overlook and a steeper trail up to Inspiration Point for a wider view. Afternoon haze drifting in from the Los Angeles basin often cuts visibility, so mornings are clearest. It is windy and cooler than the valley floor.
