Overview
Crystal Cave is a marble cavern in the Giant Forest area of Sequoia National Park. Because the formations are fragile, the cave can be visited only on a guided tour. The Sequoia Parks Conservancy, the park's official partner, has run the tours since 1982 and the cave first opened to the public in 1940.
What to See
A paved but moderately steep half-mile trail leads down from the parking area to the cave entrance, and the path through the cave covers another half mile. Tours run during a defined summer season; the cave reopened in 2025 after a four-year closure caused by wildfires and winter storms.
Know Before You Go
Tickets are sold only online through the Sequoia Parks Conservancy and are not available at the cave. The interior is cool and damp year round, so bring a light jacket and wear shoes with good traction for the trail. Confirm tour dates and buy tickets in advance, since they sell out.
