Overview

Boyden Cavern lies in Sequoia National Forest within Giant Sequoia National Monument, beneath the marble walls of the Kings Gates, which rise about 2,000 feet above the canyon. Although the cave is on Forest Service land, it is reached by driving through Kings Canyon. A Forest Service concessionaire runs the tours, which last about 45 minutes and are open to all ages.

What to See

The guided route passes stalactites, stalagmites, flowstone, and pendant and shield formations inside the marble cavern. Tours run seasonally, generally late April through early November, and are booked through the concessionaire.

Know Before You Go

A short but steep trail climbs to the cave entrance. Caves stay cool and damp year round, so wear sturdy footwear and bring a light jacket. Check current tour times and reservations before you go, since the season and schedule vary.
