From August 15 to September 15 this quadrant is the only part of the backcountry coast open to camping; the remaining quadrants open September 16. Camping is restricted to beaches, and the whole backcountry coast is closed January 1 through August 14 to protect pupping seals and sea lions and nesting seabirds. From March 1 to September 15, back beaches and dunes close to protect nesting western snowy plovers. Reservations are required through Recreation.gov or (877) 444-6777, and campers check in with a ranger on arrival. No fires are allowed, human waste and trash must be packed out, and one gallon of water per person per day is recommended.
