Know Before You Go

Camping is allowed on beaches only within the quadrant, with the area open September 16 through December 31. Beaches around Sandy Point and the stretch between Carrington Point and East Point are closed to camping year round, and Lobo Canyon beach is day use only. The full backcountry coast is closed January 1 through August 14 to protect pupping seals and sea lions and nesting seabirds; spring restrictions also protect nesting western snowy plovers. Reservations are required in advance through Recreation.gov or (877) 444-6777, and campers check in with a ranger on arrival. No fires are allowed, and human waste and trash must be packed out.
