WOODCAMP CAMPGROUND

Tahoe National Forest, CA

Woodcamp sits on the western shore of Jackson Meadow Reservoir, where pine and fir trees frame views of the Sierra Crest and English Mountain. The campground works as a base for water activities on the reservoir and connects to both a short nature trail and Pacific Crest Trail access on the lake's east side.

The Camp

The campground spreads through a pine and fir forest along Jackson Meadow Reservoir's western shore, with each site equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. You'll find both flush and vault toilets plus drinking water β€” a solid middle ground between primitive and full-hookup camping. The rolling forested valley setting delivers mountain views without the alpine exposure that can make higher-elevation camps feel harsh.

A half-mile interpretive nature trail winds through the campground itself, giving you something to explore without leaving camp. The Pacific Crest Trail runs along the reservoir's east side, though you'll need to drive around to reach that trailhead.

On the Water

Jackson Meadow Reservoir handles the full spectrum of water activities β€” boating, water skiing, swimming, and fishing for rainbow and brown trout. The recreation area includes both a boat ramp and designated swim beach, so you're not scrambling over rocks to get in the water. Canoeing works well here too, particularly if you want to avoid the powerboat traffic.

What to Know

Nevada Irrigation District operates Woodcamp in cooperation with the Tahoe National Forest β€” call (530) 994-3401 for current information. The Grouse Ridge Non-Motorized area and Bowman corridor lakes are nearby, along with hunting and biking opportunities in the surrounding forest.

The campground's position in the Woodcamp Recreation Area means you're getting more developed amenities than you'd find at a basic forest service camp, but without the crowd intensity of the main Tahoe basin campgrounds.
