The Camp
Ten Mile Creek flows right through the campground, giving most sites the sound of running water and easy access for fishing. The setting is classic Sierra Nevada forest — sequoias and ponderosa pines creating substantial shade at an elevation that keeps things cooler than the Central Valley below. Sites come in single and double-family configurations, each with a picnic table, campfire ring, and bear locker. Vault toilets handle the sanitation needs.
The primitive designation means no hookups, no showers, and no camp store — bring everything you need. But it also means fewer crowds and a more authentic forest experience than the developed campgrounds closer to main roads.
Nearby
Hume Lake, just five miles down Tenmile Road, offers the full range of Sierra recreation. The lake allows non-motorized boating and fishing, with hiking and mountain biking trails radiating from its shores. Winter transforms the area into snowmobile, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing territory.
For a unique sequoia experience, Bearskin Grove provides one of the few places where you can photograph an entire mature sequoia in a single frame. About 50 trees in the grove measure over six feet in diameter. Reach it via Tenmile Road to Forest Road 13S02, then 13S98.
Day trips to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks are manageable from here, as are visits to Boyden Cavern and Princess Meadow. The location puts you in the heart of Sequoia National Forest's 1.1 million acres, with elevations ranging from 1,000 to 12,000 feet and features like Grizzly Falls within reach.
