The Camp

Three group sites spread through forested terrain just off the paved access road. Each site accommodates up to 30 people and eight vehicles, with one site meeting accessibility standards. The setup includes picnic tables, pedestal grills, and campfire circles at each site, plus vault toilets and drinking water for the campground.

The location puts you in the Children's National Forest, an area that was devastated by wildfire and rebuilt with help from local children. This backstory shapes the landscape you'll be camping in.

What to Know

Group sites require reservations and cost $114 per night. You can book up to 12 months ahead for group sites, which matters given the limited inventory of just three sites total.

The campground operates during spring and fall seasons, avoiding the winter snow and summer heat that hit this 6,000-foot elevation.

Nearby

Several trails start near the campground, including access to a lookout tower and climbing area. The Trail of the Phoenix offers a short, paved interpretive walk about three miles away at the Children's National Forest entrance.

Arrowbear Lake sits five miles from camp, stocked with rainbow trout each spring. The adjacent Running Springs community provides dining, shopping, groceries, and fuel β€” useful for group trips that need to resupply.

Hiking, mountain biking, and birding are the main activities, with the rebuilt forest providing a different character than undisturbed wilderness areas.
