The Camp
The campground spreads across a mountainous pine forest setting where sagebrush grows alongside paved roads. More than 100 sites accommodate both tent and RV camping, with a couple dozen sites offering full utility hookups. Each site comes equipped with tables and campfire rings with grills, plus access to accessible flush toilets, showers, and drinking water throughout the campground.
Firewood is available for purchase on-site, and a dump station operates for a $10 fee. Street parking outside the campground provides overflow options when sites fill up.
Trail Access
The Alpine Pedal Path and Cougar Crest Trail run within a short distance of the campground, both connecting to the Pacific Crest Trail for longer adventures. The Big Bear Ranger Station sits within a mile and stocks area maps while rangers field trail questions.
Mountain biking and hiking opportunities spread throughout the surrounding forest, though you'll want to check with rangers for current conditions and recommendations based on your skill level.
Lake Activities
Big Bear Lake sits within walking distance, though the campground doesn't provide direct lake access. A boat ramp operates about a mile away for launching watercraft. Fishing targets include trout, bass, catfish, carp, bluegill, and crappie.
The Big Bear Discovery Center sits directly across from the campground entrance, offering a visitor center, interpretive trails, educational programs, and accessible restroom facilities for those wanting to learn more about the area's natural history.
