Amenities
The Camp
Six single sites and six yurts handle up to six people each, spread through forest at 6,400 feet elevation. The yurts add a twist for campers wanting walls without hauling an RV up the mountain roads. Fire rings are standard; electrical hookups are not. Vault toilets serve the campground, and potable water is available on-site.
ExplorUS operates the facility, with campground hosts available for information and comment forms for feedback.
What to Know
Reservations are required for this 15-site campground. At 6,500 feet, the season runs spring through fall, avoiding the snow months that shut down higher elevation camps in the Sierra. The location within Giant Sequoia National Monument puts you in the heart of sequoia country β more than 30 groves dot the forest's lower slopes.
Nearby
The Trail of a Hundred Giants provides the marquee attraction, winding through Long Meadow Giant Sequoia Grove within walking distance of camp. For grove collectors, Belknap Grove and Freeman Grove round out the southern section's highlights.
The broader Sequoia National Forest stretches across 1.1 million acres with elevations from 1,000 to 12,000 feet. Trails from the area climb mountains, follow wild rivers, and access waterfalls including Salmon Creek Falls and Grizzly Falls. The forest's precipitous canyons and mountain streams create the dramatic topography that makes the sequoia groves feel like cathedral clearings in an otherwise rugged landscape.
