Amenities
The Camp
Each site comes with a picnic table and fire ring with grill, set among Jeffrey pines and firs with sagebrush understory. The large parking spurs accommodate bigger rigs and multiple vehicles. Some sites offer reservoir views through the trees, while mountain ridges frame the backdrop. The campground sits within walking distance of Prosser Reservoir's western shore, putting you close enough to hear the water but far enough back to avoid the boat launch bustle.
On the Water
Prosser Reservoir enforces a 10-mph speed limit, keeping things mellow for paddlers and anglers while still allowing powerboats. The boat ramp is a half-mile away near Prosser Ranch Group Campground. Swimming and fishing are popular, and the calmer water makes this more family-friendly than some of the region's larger lakes.
What to Know
Reservations are required, and at $20 per night, sites fill up during peak summer months. The facility is operated by Lake Tahoe Hospitality LLC for the Forest Service. Vault toilets serve the campground.
Nearby
Truckee sits ten minutes south with full services — restaurants, grocery stores, gas stations, and that mountain town atmosphere. Lake Tahoe is thirty minutes away for bigger water adventures. Boca Reservoir, thirty minutes east, offers additional boating and water skiing if Prosser's speed limit feels restrictive. The surrounding area provides extensive hiking, biking, horseback riding, and OHV trails, including access to Prosser Pits OHV area and various interpretive trails like the Donner Camp and Overland Emigrant routes.
