PEARCH CREEK CAMPGROUND

Six Rivers National Forest, CA

Ten campsites tucked into a Douglas fir forest along Pearch Creek, just north of Orleans in the Klamath River valley. The sound of running water and thick canopy keep things cool even when the valley heats up, making this a solid basecamp for Klamath River fishing and rafting.

The Camp

Mature Douglas fir and hardwoods create a shaded canopy over all ten sites, with moss-covered rocks and tree trunks adding to the forest feel. Pearch Creek runs close enough that you'll hear water from most spots. The lush foliage provides decent privacy between sites, and many come with vintage rock stoves in addition to the standard fire rings and picnic tables.

Sites 1 and 6-10 can handle RVs, while the rest are tent-only. Vault toilets and drinking water cover the basics.

What to Know

The campground operates mid-May through mid-October and requires reservations. Being close to Orleans puts you in the heart of Klamath River country without the crowds of more famous spots upstream.

Nearby

The Klamath River gets the attention here β€” salmon and steelhead fishing that's considered among northern California's best. Both the Klamath and Salmon Rivers offer whitewater rafting, swimming, and kayaking within a short drive. For those looking to get on foot, trailheads into the Marble Mountain Wilderness are accessible from the area.

The location north of Orleans puts you in the lower Klamath valley, where the river has mellowed from its wilder upstream stretches but still holds plenty of fish and character.
