The Camp

The campground sits in an open meadow ringed by lodgepole pine and fir, designed specifically for campers traveling with horses. Each site comes with the standard picnic table and fire ring, plus hitching racks for your animals. A shared horse corral handles overflow or gives the horses room to move around camp.

The meadow location means you're not tucked into dense forest β€” expect open views toward the Sierra Crest and English Mountain across the rolling terrain. At 6,511 feet, nights stay cool even in summer.

The Area

Jackson Meadow Reservoir handles the water sports β€” boating, water skiing, swimming, and fishing for rainbow and brown trout. The boat ramp sits over at Pass Creek Campground, and there's a designated swim beach nearby for those wanting to cool off after a day in the saddle.

The Pacific Crest Trail runs just half a mile away via a connector trail from camp. Beyond the PCT, the surrounding Tahoe National Forest offers plenty of riding territory, plus hiking and biking trails if you're traveling with non-riders. Milton and Bowman Reservoirs lie nearby, along with the Grouse Ridge Non-Motorized Area for quieter exploration.

The location works as a solid base camp whether you're planning day rides, accessing the PCT for longer adventures, or mixing horseback time with reservoir activities.
