The Camp
Pine forest defines the experience here, with heavy shade covering portions of the campground and thick shrub growth creating natural privacy screens around some sites. The setting feels properly wooded rather than cleared and manicured. Each site comes with a table and campfire ring with grill, and firewood is available for purchase onsite.
The campground accommodates both tents and RVs across its 80-plus sites, though no hookups are available. Vault toilets and trash collection handle the basics, with a dump station at nearby Serrano Campground for RV needs. Paved roads run through the campground itself, with additional parking available just outside the main area.
What to Know
Part of the access road is rough dirt — fair warning for low-clearance vehicles or anyone pulling a large RV. Some sites operate on a first-come, first-served basis, while others take reservations. The $10 nightly fee reflects the no-frills approach: clean facilities and a good forest setting without extras.
Nearby
Gray's Peak Trail starts 3.5 miles from camp and connects to Hanna Flat Trail for a longer loop option. Ten miles of unmarked trails lead toward Coxcomb Creek for those comfortable with less defined routes.
Big Bear Lake sits close enough for day trips, with fishing for trout, bluegill, crappie, catfish, and largemouth bass. Boating works well here, though swimming gets discouraged due to cold water and underwater obstacles near shore. The town of Fawnskin lies less than 3 miles away for groceries, restaurants, and fuel runs.
