The Camp

The campground spreads through stands of cedar and ponderosa pine at 3,600 feet elevation. Sites include both single and double-family options, with a few accessible sites available. Each comes with the standard setup: picnic table, fire ring, and grill. Vault toilets and drinking water are on-site, and you can buy firewood from the camp host.

Expect hot days and cool nights during summer β€” the elevation provides some relief but won't save you from Central Sierra heat.

Water Access

Sugar Pine Reservoir is the main draw here, offering fishing, swimming, canoeing, and boating right from camp. A paved, non-motorized trail circles the campground and connects to both the day use area and neighboring Shirttail Creek Campground β€” useful for exploring without breaking camp.

The North Fork of the American River runs nearby, adding more fishing and swimming spots to the mix.

Trail Access

Miles of hiking and OHV trails spread through the surrounding Tahoe National Forest. The area caters to both foot traffic and off-road vehicles, so expect some engine noise during busy periods.

The paved trail system around the reservoir keeps casual walks separated from motorized traffic, which families with kids will appreciate.
