Amenities
The Camp
The campground spreads along the Upper McCloud River with 37 regular sites plus two double sites, all with paved parking spurs. You'll find standard amenities β picnic tables, fire rings, vault toilets, and piped drinking water β plus some sites get bear-resistant food lockers. The setting mixes conifers with oak woodland, typical for this elevation on the south end of the Cascades.
Sites handle tents and mid-sized RVs without trouble, but large rigs should look elsewhere. A camp host stays on-site during the season.
The Falls
The real draw here is waterfall access. The riverside trail from camp runs about three miles round-trip to hit all three McCloud Falls, which drop between 15 and 50 feet. If hiking isn't your thing, the McCloud River Loop road covers 10 miles with parking lots and overlooks at Middle Falls and Upper Falls.
The river section here has no special fishing restrictions, and swimming holes dot the area. Cattle Camp Swimming Hole and Lakin Dam Fishing Area are both within reach.
What to Know
Reservations are required, and this campground runs on spring and fall seasons β summer heat at this elevation can be intense. The $15 nightly fee includes a $10 change or cancellation fee if your plans shift.
McCloud town sits 10 minutes away, while the city of Mt. Shasta is 20 minutes if you need more substantial services. Medicine Lake Highlands and McCloud Reservoir offer additional exploring options in the area.
