The Camp

Most sites handle both tents and RVs, scattered through a mixed hardwood and conifer forest that provides decent shade and catches those helpful midsummer breezes. Some sites offer direct lake views, while others sit within a short walk of the water. The setting feels genuinely secluded β€” Douglas fir and cedar create natural privacy between sites.

The lake itself dominates the experience here. Lily pads cluster near shore, and the water supports trout, bluegill, and bass populations that keep anglers occupied. Swimming and canoeing work well in the calmer sections.

What to Know

The campground operates mid-June through September, with reservations required. Call 530-627-3291 to check current water availability β€” it's not guaranteed. Vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings with grills are standard at all sites.

Three trail systems start right from the campground: Blue Lake, Red Lake, and Fish Lake trails offer hiking options without needing to drive elsewhere. For serious water sports, the Klamath, Trinity, and Salmon Rivers are close enough for day trips β€” the kayaking, whitewater rafting, and fishing on these systems has a strong reputation throughout northern California.

Nearby

Weitchpec sits 12 miles south at the junction of Highways 96 and 169. The small community has Yurok tribal offices, a community center, plus a grocery store and gas station for basic resupply needs. It's functional rather than scenic, but covers the essentials if you've forgotten something or need fuel for the drive out.
