Four group sites perched on the south shore of Stampede Reservoir, each with central fire rings built for cooking over flames. Half an hour from Truckee puts you close enough for supply runs, far enough to feel separated from the highway noise.

Amenities
The Camp
The sites split into two tiers: Woodsman and Prospector handle up to 50 people each, while Rancher and Trapper top out at 25. Each comes with about six picnic tables, four grills, and a large campfire ring positioned for group cooking. The Woodsman site throws in horseshoe pits. Ponderosa pine, Jeffrey pine, and fir provide shade across the campground, with the reservoir stretching north from your doorstep.
What to Know
Reservations are required β no showing up and hoping for the best. The boat ramp sits a half-mile away, close enough to trailer your rig without the walk becoming a project. Spring and fall are the active seasons here; summer heat can make the exposed reservoir shoreline less appealing for extended stays.
Nearby
Stampede Reservoir delivers the expected lineup: rainbow and brown trout plus kokanee salmon for anglers, open water for boats and skiers. The Overland Emigrant Commemorative Trail runs nearby for hiking and mountain biking, part of the trail network that spreads through the surrounding forest. Boca Reservoir sits 10 minutes south for additional water access. Truckee's restaurants and supply options are close enough for evening runs, while Lake Tahoe's full recreational menu waits 45 minutes south. The Prosser Pits OHV area gives dirt bike and ATV riders their own playground.
