DOGWOOD

San Bernardino National Forest, CA

Dogwood sits in dense San Bernardino National Forest, 20 miles northeast of the city, where cedar, oak, pine, and fir create a proper mountain forest feel just five minutes from Lake Arrowhead. The campground offers dozens of sites—mostly for tents, some with electric hookups for RVs—plus two short trails that loop right from camp.

The Camp

The sites spread through a lush forest that's home to varied wildlife and birds. Each comes with a table and fire ring with grill, and you can buy firewood on-site. The parking aprons are paved but narrow, so larger RVs should measure twice before booking. Accessible flush toilets, showers, and drinking water keep things civilized, and an amphitheater hosts weekend evening programs when the host is feeling social.

All sites require reservations—no rolling up and hoping for the best.

Trails from Camp

Two short trails start right from the campground. The Dogwood Trail and Enchanted Loop Trail both run less than a mile and offer scenic views without much commitment. For longer day hikes, the surrounding San Bernardino National Forest provides plenty of options within striking distance.

Nearby

Lake Arrowhead sits five minutes away with restaurants and shops when camp coffee isn't cutting it. Lake Gregory, about 15 minutes out, offers boating and fishing plus a water slide park if you're camping with kids who need more than forest exploration to stay happy.

The location puts you in legitimate mountain forest without the drive deeper into the backcountry—useful if you want the forest experience but need to stay tethered to civilization or have mixed skill levels in your group.
