This group campground on Lake Shasta's McCloud Arm puts up to 60 people right at the water's edge with Mount Shasta's snow-capped peak in the distance. The setting works well for family reunions or group gatherings that want lake access without the crowds of Shasta's busier arms.

The Camp
Dekkas Rock sits directly on the shoreline with sites adjacent to the water, though lake levels drop as summer progresses. The camp comes equipped for groups: eight large tables, multiple grills including one family-sized barbecue, two campfire rings, and four unpaved parking spurs. An additional parking lot with eight spaces handles boat trailers and overflow.
The location on the McCloud Arm means views of steep mountains covered in manzanita and evergreens, with Mount Shasta visible in the distance. Bear-proof food lockers come standard β this is active bear country.
What to Know
Open for reservations year-round, though the dropping lake levels make summer timing worth considering. The camp accommodates 60 people maximum across the group site. Drinking water and vault toilets are provided.
Nearby
The Hirz Bay Trail starts right at camp β a one-mile hike for foot traffic only. The nearby Hirz Bay boat ramp serves both motorized and non-motorized craft, putting you directly on Lake Shasta's 365 miles of shoreline.
Lake Shasta fishing covers the spectrum: trout, catfish, Chinook salmon, crappie, bluegill, white sturgeon, brown bullhead, and bass. Water skiing draws crowds to other parts of the lake.
For a break from water activities, Lake Shasta Caverns operates daily tours from the Grey Rocks area on the same arm. Hirz Mountain Lookout, at 3,500 feet, offers panoramic views of Mount Shasta, Mount Lassen, and the surrounding country.
