COOPER GULCH CAMPGROUND

Shasta-Trinity National Forest, CA

Cooper Gulch sits directly on Lewiston Lake's shoreline, a tight five-site campground where every spot faces the water. This is fishing and paddling base camp — not a place to retreat from the lake, but to wake up on it.

The Camp

Five paved sites tucked into mixed conifer and deciduous forest, each with table, fire ring, and lake views. The setup is intimate rather than spacious — this isn't a campground for large groups or RV caravans. Wildflowers fill the understory between campsites. The day-use area adds five parking spots for anglers and hikers not staying overnight.

Every site puts you within steps of Lewiston Lake's edge. At 1,902 feet elevation, the lake stretches five miles long and drops to 70 feet deep. The no-wake speed limit keeps things calm for paddlers and tubers.

Fishing and Paddling

Rainbow trout run abundant here, with browns and brooks mixed in. The 10-mph speed restriction makes this solid water for float tubes and fly fishing without dodging speedboats. Kayaks and canoes launch directly from camp.

Pine Cove boat ramp sits four miles away for trailer access. Trinity Lake's Fairview launch is nine miles north if you want bigger water.

Access and Logistics

County Road 105 runs four miles north of Lewiston to reach the campground. Weaverville is 17 miles out. The Baker Gulch Trail starts from the day-use area for those wanting to stretch their legs on land.

Reservations are required for the $24 sites. The historic town of Lewiston is three miles south when you need supplies or want to see something besides trees and water.
