The Camp
This is group camping in its simplest form: one site accommodating up to 25 people and 10 vehicles on gravel parking spurs. The somewhat rustic setup includes multiple tables, a campfire circle, grills, and vault toilets. No water hookups, no electrical connections, and no drinking water on-site β you haul what you need.
The three historic cabins add character to the campground, though camping inside them is prohibited. Mature pines provide some atmosphere but little shade over the rocky terrain. At 8,000 feet, expect cooler temperatures than the valleys below.
Trail Access
The Pacific Crest Trail runs adjacent to the campground, giving your group immediate access to day hikes or short nature walks along this 2,600-mile route from Canada to Mexico. The trail allows hiking and horseback riding, with multiple entry and exit points making it flexible for different abilities and ambitions.
The San Gorgonio Wilderness spreads out from here with various trailheads and exploration options. Mountain stream fishing and wildlife viewing round out the on-site recreation.
What to Know
Group sites book up to 12 months in advance β plan accordingly. The $10 nightly fee makes this one of the more affordable group camping options in Southern California's high country. Big Bear Lake sits less than 20 miles away if your group wants water recreation, dining, or supply runs.
The elevation means this camp works best from late spring through early fall, when mountain access roads are clear and temperatures are manageable for tent camping.
