The Camp

The campground spreads through a heavily forested stand of pine and fir trees, with Boca Spring feeding a meadow that sits adjacent to the sites. You'll find the standard setup: picnic tables, campfire rings, grills, vault toilets, and drinking water. The group site handles up to 25 people and eight vehicles, making it a solid option for larger gatherings who want reservoir access without the crowds right on the water.

Water Access

Boca Reservoir sits just a mile west β€” close enough for easy day trips but far enough to keep the campground from feeling like a boat launch parking lot. The reservoir offers the full menu of water recreation: boating, water skiing, swimming, and fishing. The boat ramp is located near Boca Campground on the southwest end of the reservoir, so launching is straightforward.

For anglers, the Little Truckee River runs nearby and reportedly offers some of Northern California's better catch-and-release fly-fishing opportunities.

Nearby Options

The Boca Townsite Interpretive Trail runs right from the area, telling the story of historic Boca as it shifted from Central Pacific Railroad construction camp to mill and ice company operations to brewery. Stampede Reservoir sits 9 miles north for more water recreation options.

The surrounding area provides hiking, biking, horseback riding, and OHV trails, plus you're positioned between Truckee (20 minutes) for resupply and services, and Lake Tahoe (35 minutes) for the full alpine lake experience. The Prosser Pits OHV area and various commemorative trails like the Donner Camp Interpretive Trail and Overland Emigrant Commemorative Trail are all within range.
