BOCA REST CAMPGROUND

Tahoe National Forest, CA

Boca Rest sits on the northeast shore of Boca Reservoir, 20 minutes from Truckee in open sagebrush country with scattered pines. The exposed sites offer little shade but plenty of space between neighbors, with a few waterfront spots for those who book early. The Camp

Most sites here sprawl across open terrain dotted with sagebrush β€” exposed but well-spaced enough that you won't be listening to your neighbor's playlist. A few waterfront sites sit right along Boca Reservoir's edge, though shade is scarce throughout the campground. Each site comes with the standard picnic table and fire ring, plus vault toilets and drinking water.

The setting trades forest cover for big sky views and direct reservoir access. An unimproved boat launch sits just south of the campground if you're hauling watercraft.

What to Know

Boca Reservoir spans 900 acres and draws boaters, water skiers, and anglers looking for an alternative to Lake Tahoe's circus. The Little Truckee River flows nearby, offering some of Northern California's better catch-and-release fly-fishing according to locals.

Lake Tahoe Hospitality LLC runs operations here for the Forest Service, so expect private contractor management rather than traditional Forest Service staff. The area sees heavy off-highway vehicle use, particularly during peak season.

Nearby

The Boca Townsite Interpretive Trail tells the story of the old railroad construction camp that became the Boca Mill and Ice Company, then later the Boca Brewery. Stampede Reservoir lies 9 miles north with similar water recreation opportunities. Truckee sits 20 minutes away for resupply, restaurants, and interstate access. Lake Tahoe is 30 minutes south when you want the full alpine lake experience.

The surrounding area offers hiking, biking, and horseback trails, plus OHV routes for those with dirt bikes or ATVs.
