The Cabin

The 900-square-foot cabin maintains its original character from the CCC era—redwood siding, original cabinets, and vintage bath fixtures. You get one bedroom with a queen bed and twin bunks, a living room with a sofa sleeper, and a full kitchen stocked with cookware and utensils. The bedroom includes basic furniture and a small closet, while the living room has the expected mountain cabin setup: rocking chair, coffee table, bookcase, and desk. Bring your own bedding and linens.

Outside, there's a fire ring that doubles as a barbecue and a picnic table. The cabin sits directly across from Big Meadows itself—a large meadow bordered by lodgepole pine, Jeffrey pine, and red fir, with Big Meadows Creek running through it.

The Area

Horse Corral Pack Station rents horses, and Horse Camp provides overnight stock camping, making this a solid base for equestrian trips into Jennie Lakes Wilderness. The Big Meadows Trailhead launches directly from here into that wilderness area. For non-riders, Buck Rock Lookout sits on a granite dome a short drive away, and several giant sequoia groves are accessible by vehicle.

Hume Lake lies 15 miles out, offering fishing and non-motorized boating. Mountain bikers can use designated trails and roads in the Giant Sequoia National Monument. Some roads allow OHV use, and multiple trailheads provide access to Jennie Lakes, Monarch, and National Parks wilderness areas. Both Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks are nearby for day trips.
