Antlers (Shasta Lake, CA)

Shasta-Trinity National Forest, CA

Antlers sits on a bluff above Shasta Lake's Sacramento arm, trading water access for panoramic views of the lake and distant Mount Shasta. The heavily forested setting provides good shade and privacy, while the adjacent public boat launch makes this a natural base for anglers and boaters who want developed amenities without marina crowds.

The Camp

The 41 sites occupy a forested bluff where pine, oak, and manzanita create natural screening between neighbors. Each site comes equipped with picnic tables, food lockers, fire rings, and grills, plus tent pads for those not bringing RVs. The campground accommodates both tents and RVs, though there are no hookups or dump stations.

The trade-off for those elevated lake views is simple: no direct water access from camp. You'll need to walk over to the public boat launch next door to reach the water, which keeps the shoreline from getting crowded but adds a few steps to your morning fishing routine.

Flush and vault toilets are scattered throughout, along with drinking water, but no showers. Weekend interpretive programs run at the nearby amphitheater from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

What to Know

Easy access from I-5 makes Antlers extremely popular, so book well ahead for summer weekends. The campground's popularity stems from its combination of lake access and forest setting β€” you get the best of Shasta Lake's fishing and boating without camping in a parking lot.

Spring offers the best trout fishing along the Sacramento arm and nearby creek mouths, with fish moving to deeper water as summer heats up. Bass fishing stays productive year-round but peaks in late spring and early summer when fish are in the shallows.

Nearby

Lake Shasta Caverns offers guided tours for a break from water activities. The town of Lakehead provides restaurants and basic supplies within easy reach. With 365 miles of shoreline and multiple arms to explore, Shasta Lake offers enough variety to keep boaters and anglers busy for weeks, whether you're trolling the deeper waters of summer or working the shallows for bass.
