Overview

Kule Loklo means "Bear Valley" in Coast Miwok. The replica village includes traditional structures: kotcas (dwelling structures), a sweat lodge, granaries, and a dance house, built with traditional materials as part of an ongoing collaboration with Coast Miwok descendants. Interpretive signs explain village life, plant use, and the history of the Miwok people in the region.

What to Expect

A short but initially steep climb from the parking area levels off at the village site. The path has exposed tree roots. Gopher mounds are common at the village clearing โ€” watch your footing. The trail can be extended via the Morgan Trail to loop back through the Bear Valley area.

Tips & Logistics

Trail begins at the north end of the Bear Valley parking lot. Dogs are not allowed on the trail or at Kule Loklo. No permit required. Year-round accessible. Takes about 20 minutes round trip.
