Overview

The Y Ranch operated as one of the many dairy ranches that shaped the Point Reyes Peninsula through the 19th and 20th centuries. The site is accessible by continuing past Miller Point on the Coast Trail, with the eucalyptus grove visible on the bluff. Drakes Bay spreads out below the bluff edge throughout the coastal section.

What to Expect

The route follows Bear Valley Trail through shaded forest before emerging at the coast. The coastal section has been affected by the 2020 Woodward Fire and by coastal bluff collapse โ€” Kelham Beach Trail, which formerly accessed the beach below, is permanently closed due to storm damage. Stay back from bluff edges.

Tips & Logistics

Starts at the Bear Valley Trailhead. Dogs are not allowed. No permit required. Allow 5โ€“6 hours for the full round trip. Poison oak is present in the coastal scrub sections. Fall is best for clear views.
