Overview

Sculptured Beach gets its name from the water-carved sandstone formations along the shore — sea stacks, caves, and arches created by wave action. The intertidal area is rich when exposed at low tide. The Sculptured Beach Trail spur has been decommissioned; the current approach uses the Coast Trail from Limantour or Laguna trailheads.

What to Expect

Approach distance varies by trailhead. The 2020 Woodward Fire affected portions of the approach terrain. High tide against the adjacent bluffs can trap hikers on the beach — consult tide charts and plan to arrive at low tide with enough time to return before it rises. Kelham Beach (nearby) has been affected by coastal storm damage and may be closed.

Tips & Logistics

Closest trailheads are Laguna and Limantour, about 15–20 minutes from Bear Valley. Dogs are not allowed. No permit required. Check current beach conditions and closures on the park website before planning.
