The hike to Divide Meadow is a 3.2-mile round trip from Bear Valley through Douglas fir forest along Bear Valley Creek to an open meadow near the foot of Inverness Ridge. It's the most family-friendly hike from the main visitor area — shaded, gentle, and short enough to do with young children.
Overview
Bear Valley Trail follows the creek through a tall, shaded Douglas fir forest that provides some of the only reliable shade in the seashore. Divide Meadow sits at the base of the ridge where the valley begins to climb — a good turnaround point for families and a natural rest stop for those continuing to the coast.
What to Expect
Gentle uphill on a wide, well-maintained multi-use trail (bicycles and horses share this route). 240 feet of elevation gain over 1.6 miles. Vault toilets are available at Divide Meadow. The forest is consistently cool and shaded even in summer.
Tips & Logistics
Starts at the Bear Valley Trailhead, south end of the Bear Valley parking lot. Dogs are not allowed. No permit required. Year-round accessible; muddy in winter.
