The Kehoe Beach Trail is a 1.2-mile round trip along the northern edge of Kehoe Marsh to a secluded north-facing beach at the far end of Point Reyes Beach. It's one of the only trails in the seashore where leashed dogs are allowed year-round, making it the default option for visitors with pets.
Overview
The trail runs flat from Pierce Point Road along the marsh edge to the beach, where the terrain transitions to a sand dune climb for the final section. Kehoe Beach faces north and sits at the northern terminus of Point Reyes Beach's 11-mile stretch. Brush rabbits, bobcats, and occasionally mountain lions inhabit the marsh edge.
What to Expect
Flat packed-dirt trail to the beach, with a sand dune section at the end. The beach itself is safe to walk but not safe for swimming โ large surf and sneaker waves are the constant hazard here. Never turn your back to the ocean on this beach. Dense fog July through September; frequent rain in winter.
Tips & Logistics
Driving from Bear Valley takes 25โ30 minutes via Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and Pierce Point Road. Dogs are allowed on leash year-round on the trail and on the beach to the north (right side facing the ocean). Dog restrictions apply south of the trail between March 1 and September 30. No permit required.
