The Prewett Point Trail is a 0.9-mile round trip from the west-side Chaparral area to a promontory overlooking the Hain Wilderness and High Peaks, gaining only 70 feet on a surface designed to be ADA accessible. It's the most achievable viewpoint in the park, with benches along the way.
Overview
The trail connects the Chaparral Trailhead to a promontory with open views across the park's volcanic formations. Short, flat, and paved in sections — the most accessible route on the west side and a good option for visitors who can't manage the steep and rocky terrain of the main trails.
What to Expect
The 0.9-mile round trip includes minimal elevation change and benches at several viewpoints. Views from the point take in the High Peaks formation and the Hain Wilderness area. No shade; the open chaparral provides no cover from afternoon sun.
Tips & Logistics
Year-round accessible. Best visited in early morning or evening to avoid intense midday heat. The Chaparral Trailhead has water and restrooms. No permit required. Dogs are not allowed on this trail.
