Overview
The day use area is in the southeast corner of the park, reached by a road from Chester whose last three miles are dirt with steep sections, not recommended for trailers. The trailhead leads to several hydrothermal areas, including Boiling Springs Lake and Devils Kitchen, on easy to moderate hikes. Drakesbad Guest Ranch is about a mile beyond the day use area; parking there is limited to guests. The Pacific Crest Trail passes through, and the area is a common stop for through-hikers.
Know Before You Go

There is no cell service. A free permit, available by self-registration, is required for backpacking and stock use. An entrance fee or pass is required.
