Overview
The overlook gives a broad view of Point Reyes Beach, the 11-mile ocean shore also known as Great Beach. Reach it on a 0.2-mile descent down a sand-and-dirt path from the trailhead at the western end of Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. From the overlook, binoculars give a closer look at the South Beach elephant seal colony.
Know Before You Go
The lighthouse visitor parking lot is about 45 minutes by car from the Bear Valley Visitor Center and holds only 38 vehicles, so space is very limited, especially on weekend afternoons. Pets are not permitted on the South Beach Overlook Trail.
