History
Pierce Ranch was established in 1858 and became the largest ranch operation on the Point Reyes peninsula in the late 1800s, known for high-quality butter. The San Francisco food purveyor Goldberg, Bowen, and Company bought the ranch's entire butter production during that period. The ranch operated until 1973 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

Visitors can walk a self-guided path through the ranch complex, where interpretive signs describe the history and function of each building. The preserved structures include the main house, a schoolhouse, a blacksmith shop, barns, and dairy houses. Allow 20 to 30 minutes. The ranch is at the north end of Pierce Point Road.
