Overview
Franklin Canyon Park covers 605 acres in the eastern Santa Monica Mountains. The Discovery, Berman, and Hastain trails suit novice to intermediate hikers, and a loop trail around the reservoir is stroller friendly. Heavenly Pond and Franklin Canyon Reservoir give resting habitat to birds on the Pacific Flyway, with ducks present year-round. The park has appeared in many Hollywood productions.
Facilities and Programs
The Sooky Goldman Nature Center, also called the William O. Douglas Outdoor Classroom, offers exhibits and free interpretive programs.
Know Before You Go
The park is managed and operated by the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority in partnership with the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy. Because it is MRCA land rather than National Park Service land, dogs are not allowed on the trails.
