The spatter cones

The chimneys formed when gas-charged lava was thrown into the air in globs that landed and welded together, building hollow, lumpy mounds around the vent. The central chimney drops about 50 feet. After the cones built up, less explosive lava flowed out to create the rough Devil's Homestead aa flow nearby.

At the site

A picnic area has shaded tables built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, using large logs brought from Oregon Caves and rock gathered locally, with an accessible restroom. Do not throw anything into the chimneys.
