The flow

The Devil's Homestead is aa lava, the rough, broken kind. As it advanced, the cooling, clinkery front cracked and tumbled, then was run over by the still-molten core behind it, leaving the jagged blocks visible today. The flow came from Fleener Chimneys, more than a mile south of the overlook. From here the spread of dark, sharp-edged rock reads clearly against the basin floor.
