Inside the cave

Catacombs runs about 6,903 feet, the longest tour route here. The first stretch is walkable, but past roughly 800 feet the ceiling drops to about 3 feet, and some sections narrow to around 12 inches. A map is recommended because of the branching layout. Carry a helmet and at least three light sources, and pick up a free permit and white-nose syndrome screening at the visitor center before going in. This is a route for people comfortable with extended crawling and tight, dark passages.
