Overview

The vista looks out over Little Hot Springs Valley toward the remnants of Brokeoff Volcano, also called Mount Tehama. The composite volcano once stood roughly 11,500 feet tall and 11 miles wide; erosion has since reduced it to a ring of surrounding peaks, including Brokeoff Mountain, Mount Diller, Pilot Pinnacle, and Mount Conard. A small rock terrace at the site holds a lone boulder, a glacial erratic, with Lassen Peak in the background.

Know Before You Go

Parking is limited and fills quickly in summer, partly because of the nearby Bumpass Hell trailhead. Amenities include vault toilets, an information kiosk, and recycling. This is one of the few areas of the park with cell service. The site is also used for stargazing and is associated with the annual Lassen Dark Sky Festival, though overnight parking and camping are not permitted.
