Wishon sits across the street from Bass Lake, tucked into dense stands of manzanita, oak, cedar and pine that create natural privacy between sites. Some spots offer lake views, and you're close enough to walk to the water but far enough back to avoid the boat launch crowds.

The Camp
Dense undergrowth provides privacy between sites at this shady campground at 3,400 feet elevation. Each site comes with a picnic table, stone fire pit, and pedestal grill. The setting feels secluded despite being just across from Bass Lake β thick stands of oak, cedar, pine, and manzanita create natural barriers between neighbors.
The parking spurs are dirt and can be bumpy with difficult access due to interior road conditions, so factor that into your arrival plans. Flush toilets and drinking water are on-site, and Miller's Landing Resort next door covers the basics: general store, pay showers, laundry, and a restaurant.
The Lake and Trails
Bass Lake offers a beach and boat ramp where you'll find motorized boating, water skiing, sailing, and fishing for bass, trout, bluegill, and catfish. Swimming, canoeing, and kayaking are popular here too. The lake draws bald and golden eagles, so keep your eyes up.
Four trails launch from the area: Willow Creek (2.7 miles), Goat Mountain (2.6 miles), Spring Cove (2.6 miles), and the shorter Way-of-the-Mono Interpretive Trail (1 mile). Weekend educational programs run during summer.
What to Know
Group reservations open 12 months ahead versus the standard six months for individual sites. You're 24 miles from Yosemite's South Entrance, making this a solid base camp for exploring both the national park and Sierra National Forest backcountry.
The Bass Lake area gets busy β it's known for its fishing variety and scenic setting on the Sierra's western slope. The terrain here transitions from oak-covered foothills to heavily forested middle elevations, with the High Sierra's alpine landscape beyond.
