The Camp

The campground spreads through shady Ponderosa pines along Edison Lake's shoreline, with sites set back from parking spurs to give you some breathing room. Each site comes with the standard bear-proof food locker setup, though some sites sit on slopes that won't work for tents. Sandy beaches provide direct lake access for swimming, and most sites catch lake views through the trees.

Eight water spigots distribute potable water throughout the campground. The Vermillion Valley Resort sits within walking distance, offering limited supplies and pay showers when you need to clean up.

On the Water

Edison Lake's free boat launch opens up options for paddlers and anglers. Canoeing and kayaking work well along the shoreline, while the fishing targets rainbow, brown, and brook trout. The proximity to water makes this a solid base camp for mixing hiking with lake activities.

Wilderness Access

The campground positions you at the doorstep of two major wilderness areas. Numerous hiking and equestrian trails branch out from the area, and the Vermillion Valley Resort runs ferry service across the lake to trailheads in the Ansel Adams Wilderness. Summer brings campfire programs if you're looking for evening activities beyond staring at the water.

The combination of lake access, wilderness proximity, and equestrian facilities makes Vermillion a practical choice for horse packers and anyone wanting developed camping with backcountry options nearby.
