The Camp

The 50-some sites here range from level spots in the meadows to hillier, shaded sites under the oaks and pines. All have paved spurs, fire pits, and reasonable access to vault toilets. Water spigots appear about every six sites, so you won't be hauling water far. The Table Mountain Nature Trail runs right through camp β€” convenient for morning wildlife watching or evening walks.

At 7,000 feet, summer days hit the low 80s while nights cool down considerably. Pack layers.

What to Know

This is horse country. The campground caters to equestrian groups, so expect to share the area with riders and their trailers. The amphitheater site handles day-use groups up to 150 people and 30 vehicles β€” contact Tyler Shippy at tyler_shippy@mthigh.com or (888) 754-7878 ext 7834 for reservations and pricing.

Wildlife includes the usual suspects β€” squirrels, deer, birds β€” plus the occasional California condor sighting.

Nearby

The Pacific Crest Trail and Blue Ridge Trail are both accessible from camp. The PCT connection alone makes this worth considering if you're section hiking or want to sample the trail without committing to a backpacking trip.

The Angeles Crest Scenic Byway (Highway 2) runs right past the campground, offering one of Southern California's better mountain drives through oak thickets, chaparral, and high desert landscapes.

Wrightwood sits close by for resupply runs, with restaurants and a disc golf course at the North Resort. Mountain High's downhill bike park provides another option for wheeled adventure.
