Sycamore Grove sits on an isolated 488-acre patch of Mendocino National Forest right along the Sacramento River, where grassy fields spread under mature oak and sycamore trees. This developed campground puts you within casting distance of salmon and steelhead runs while keeping the amenities of nearby Red Bluff within easy reach. It's the rare river camp that works equally well for RV families and tent campers looking for shade and water access.

The Camp
More than two dozen sites spread across lush grass under towering shade trees, a setup that feels more like camping in a city park than deep forest. The Sacramento River runs right along the campground boundary at 300 feet elevation, giving most sites easy access to the water. Each site comes with a table and fire ring with grill, and potable water is available throughout the campground. The riparian setting means thick vegetation and good shade, plus the kind of bird activity that comes with river habitat.
Both single-family and double sites accommodate tents and RVs, though the source material doesn't specify size limits or hookups. The grassy, tree-covered terrain suggests this isn't your typical dusty campground experience.
What to Do
The 4-mile paved nature trail loops through the recreation area, winding through flowering grasslands, wetlands, and oak woodlands. From the trail you can catch views of Mount Shasta, Mount Lassen, and the Yolla Bolly Mountains on clear days. The river itself offers the full menu of water sports: fishing for Chinook salmon, steelhead, and striped bass, plus boating, water skiing, jet skiing, swimming, and canoeing.
Nearby
Red Bluff sits just two miles away for supplies and dining. Rolling Hills Casino is 25 miles out if you need indoor entertainment. For bigger adventures, Redding is 34 miles north, Lake Shasta 40 miles, and Lassen Volcanic National Park 60 miles northeast. The campground stays open year-round, making it a decent base camp for exploring Northern California's volcanic country or just floating the Sacramento when the weather cooperates.
