The Camp

The campground spreads out between two water features β€” Silver Lake on one side, Rush Creek on the other. Some sites border the creek, others face the lake, and the rest sit in between under scattered aspen and willow trees. The open sites give you mountain views; the shaded ones offer creek sounds. All sites come with the standard setup: picnic tables, fire rings, and bear lockers.

At 97 acres, Silver Lake isn't huge, but it's big enough for small boats with the 10 mph speed limit keeping things mellow. Rush Creek provides another fishing option for rainbow trout, and both the lake and creek are steps from camp.

What to Know

The pack station within walking distance makes this one of the few developed campgrounds where you can arrange horseback trips without driving elsewhere. A 1-mile trail along Rush Creek works for both hiking and riding right from camp.

The facility provides flush toilets and drinking water, plus a small store and cafe are close by for forgotten supplies or a meal you don't have to cook. The boat ramp means you can launch directly from the campground.

Nearby

A trail from the area accesses the Ansel Adams Wilderness β€” you're camping at the doorstep of high country that includes 11,000 and 12,000-foot peaks. The June Lake Loop scenic drive connects Silver Lake to other lakes in the chain, and the town of June Lake has additional services.

Day trips to Mono Lake and Yosemite National Park are feasible from here, though you're really positioned for Sierra Nevada exploration rather than Yosemite's main attractions.
