The Setting

Emigrant Landing sits on the northern end of Pyramid Lake's 1,300 acres, in the rolling hills above Santa Clarita Valley. The lake stretches 21 miles of shoreline, fed by an aqueduct that carries water from Plumas National Forest and Oroville Dam through the Tehachapi Mountains to this southern California endpoint. Pyramid Rock, the lake's namesake feature, lies south of the dam in Piru Gorge.

What to Know

No reservations accepted here — it's first-come basis for day use only. The setup includes picnic tables, flush toilets, drinking water, and even a soda machine for hot days. An accessible fishing pier extends into the lake alongside a boat ramp for launching watercraft.

Anglers target striped bass, largemouth and smallmouth bass, rainbow trout, crappie, and bluegill. The large sandy beach draws families for swimming and extended lakeside sessions, while boaters use the lake for water skiing, wakeboarding, and jet skiing.

Nearby

The Vista Del Lago Visitor Center offers elevated lake views from its wraparound platform and houses a map room detailing California's geology and water systems — worth the stop to understand how this water made its journey from northern California's mountains to the desert edge.
