The Camp
The campground spreads through an open grove of oak trees with North Fork creek running alongside. Each of the 10 sites comes with a table and stove, sharing a single toilet facility. The setting favors shade over privacy β expect to hear your neighbors and the occasional rumble of ATVs heading out for the day.
Trailers up to 30 feet can navigate the sites, making this accessible for larger rigs that want a base camp for motorized exploration.
What to Know
No reservations here β show up and claim a spot. Payment works through the Recreation.gov mobile app using their Scan and Pay feature, but download the app before you arrive since cell service gets spotty in these parts.
The stream runs strongest in winter and early spring, when fishing picks up. Summer likely means lower water and more OHV traffic as riders take advantage of the extensive trail network radiating from camp.
Nearby
This campground serves as a hub for the area's off-highway vehicle routes. The Forest Service has developed roads and trails throughout the district with funding from California's Green Sticker program. All the standard OHV regulations apply β helmets required, vehicles must be registered with current Green or Red Stickers (or highway licenses), and spark arresters are mandatory.
Sound limits stay at 96 decibels or lower, and unlicensed juveniles need supervision from licensed adults. For current trail conditions and closures, the Stonyford Work Center handles information for the Grindstone District area at (530) 963-3128.
