The Camp
Lower Billy Creek occupies a small footprint among fir and pine trees on Huntington Lake's shore. Every site comes with lake views, picnic tables, food storage lockers, and fire rings. The paved parking spurs work for car camping, but RV maneuvering gets tight due to tree placement and limited space between sites. Vault toilets and drinking water are provided.
The Billy Creek Guard Station Museum sits adjacent to the campground, offering historical context about Huntington Lake, local Native American history, and Forest Service operations in the area.
What to Know
As a group campground, Lower Billy Creek operates on the 12-month advance booking window standard for group facilities. At $10 per night, it's among the more affordable group options in the Sierra National Forest. The tight spacing and tree cover that complicate RV access also provide natural sound buffers between sites.
Nearby
The Kaiser Loop Trail offers the most substantial hiking from camp β a 12-mile circuit that connects to the broader Kaiser Wilderness trail network for both hikers and horseback riders. Day hikes to Rancheria Falls, Indian Pools, and Black Point start from the area.
Huntington Lake itself supports the full range of water activities: swimming, sailing, boating, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and water skiing. California Land Management runs interpretive programs and nature walks throughout summer at various Huntington Lake locations.
For a scenic drive, the 84-mile Sierra Vista Scenic Byway follows Highway 168 and makes a solid day trip from the lake area.
